Most of New York knows Dave as the familiar voice they wake up to in the morning, but most of New York would never guess that Dave Packer is basically the guy next door. Born and raised in the New York area, Palisades Park to be exact, Dave spent the first 25 years of his life a bonafide city boy. Like several New Yorkers Dave had a passion for music; and influenced by the likes of Eric Clapton and Aerosmith he knew early on he wanted to be involved in the music business in some capacity.
It became evident to Dave that he was interested in broadcasting as he grew up, but he was never sure if he preferred radio over television or if he wanted to be behind the scenes or in front. After attending Seton Hall in the mid 80’s, Dave was officially bit by the radio bug. “I love talking to people, and I love the one and one connection with the listeners,” Dave says. Dave found that radio was the one form of media that had no filter in between him and the listener, and it was that aspect that set his sights on being a radio personality. He spent his college years behind the mic at his college radio station and began his plan to leave the big apple to chase his dream. He began his career right next door in New Jersey. He produced several shows until he finally began his pursuit of an on air spot. It wasn’t long before Dave found himself at a small AM station in Connecticut. For years to follow Dave shared his personality and voice with listeners in any state he could perfect his craft in. He graced the listeners of New Hampshire, South Jersey, Connecticut, and Philadelphia all before he made his way back home.
After years of working with music, Dave enjoys a variety of music. However, Dave says he has a special appreciation for John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Daughtry along with some other similar artist’s music. “I like hearing a great vocalist, guitar, and a real person on the drum kit,” Dave says. If Dave is not listening to music, in his spare time he likes water sports, golf and spending time with his family. However, his listeners can find him out and about in New York at a jazz or blues club, a new restaurant, or at a park with his children. You can also catch Dave at a Mets baseball game any chance he gets!
Now that Dave is back home where his heart is, he snuggles into his seat behind the mic right here at Fresh 102.7 every morning at 5am. Dave says, “I want to give people a comfortable and fun way to wake up in the morning.” A married man with two children residing in New York, Dave knows first hand about the hustle and bustle of New York. For this reason Dave says helping New Yorkers start their day in a good mood means a lot to him. With his pleasant demeanor, subtle humor and genuine heart, you won’t want to miss Dave Packer every weekday morning on Fresh 102.7 from 5am-9am.
